The Mayoral Club is an exclusive business initiative for Liverpool, which fosters a symbiotic ecosystem between the public and private sectors to collectively drive the cultural agenda of the city.
Set up by Joe Anderson OBE, Mayor of Liverpool, the Mayoral Club embodies the unique, cultural identity of Liverpool and represents its creativity, ambition and openness to the local and global business community. In our current climate, the future for arts and culture is not entirely bright, yet, every day we witness the profound impact culture has – from the engagement to the economical. Therefore, it is of high importance that we continue to encourage it.
To do so, this unique network reinvests and sustains Liverpool’s cultural agenda through funds retained from memberships. City-wide events such as Mersey River Festival would not grace our UNESCO World Heritage Waterfront if not for the investments provided by Mayoral Club Members. As ambassadors and advocates for this kind of activity, Culture Liverpool is able to ensure our fantastic city remains on the global stage.
2019 saw a continuation of creating and celebrating opportunity, underpinned by the 20th anniversary of the city twinning with Shanghai. During 2019 we focued on international relationships and cultural exchanges, evolving Liverpool’s renaissance through collaborations. Our ‘Who Runs the World’ season shone a spotlight on inspirational, trailblazing women, we hosted the Netball World Cup and paid homage to our female leaders in the arts, sciences, business, sport and politics. During this season, Liverpool was the first in the world to showcase the largest number of internationally renowned women-focused exhibitions in any one place. Alongside these, we hosted a series of events taking place to commend our UNESCO World City of Music status, and not forgetting Fete le Vin Bordeaux Wine Festival, Mersey River Festival and River of Light – set against the backdrop of our breath-taking UNESCO World Heritage Waterfront.
