Public invited to gather for commemorative event outside St George’s Hall on Lime Street at 5.30pm on Monday, 15 April.

Liverpool is to stage a commemorative event marking the 30th anniversary of the Hillsborough football disaster on Monday, 15 April at St George’s Hall Plateau.

Organised by Liverpool City Council, the event will be open to anyone who wants to take the opportunity to pay their respects and remember the 96 Liverpool FC fans who lost their lives on that fateful day.

The Hillsborough 30th commemoration event will be held on the steps of St George’s Hall, on Lime Street, from 5.30pm with a number of speeches, performances and prayers.

Lime Street will be closed to traffic from 5pm until 7.30pm.

A public remembrance service will be held earlier in the day at Liverpool Cathedral from 2.45pm, which will feature a minute’s silence at 3.06pm – the time at which the 1989 FA Cup Semi-Final between Liverpool FC and Nottingham Forest was stopped.
